It has some of the best music in the series but the writing is a trainwreck and the mechanics, like I said, gameplay-wise it comes together for maybe 2 hours in the middle. But it only lasts like an hour or two before you're stuck in some awful dungeon.

Running from place to place and getting a few skits and having the characters comment on new enemy types, the seamless transition from running around to combat, it kind of works. There's points where it almost sort of works, like the characters themselves have fun enough personalities and there's a middle section where you do sort of get the open world idea in microcosm.

The director wanted to make a full open world game but production crashed halfway through and they had to slap together what they had so the plot is all over the place, there's tons of weird little dungeons in the overworld with literally nothing in them and no point to their existence, ideas and concepts and mechanics get completely abandoned, and approximately a third of the game is 'go to all the elmental dungeons' with barely any plot. And the game also has a ton of other weird, grindy features. Extremely RNG drops with a convoluted chart system. Zestiria's equipment system is so bad that the game itself makes fun of it. Is it the black sheep of the series? I see folk making allusions to weird item/equipment systems but haven't seen much discussion of it in general. The other games I have access to are Symphonia, which seems kind of rough, reading the last few pages here and Zestiria, which I know next to nothing about. I've played Vesperia (which I kind of soured on by the end but didn't hate) and Arise (which I mostly enjoyed!). So what's the deal with Zestiria? My first Tales of game was Berseria, I had an amazing time with that game then ended up buying every Tales game on Steam over the course of a couple of years. The games are made for controllers and Berseria in particular has really awful mouse bindings, so I wouldn't recommend it.Ĭaphi fucked around with this message at 02:59 on Mar 10, 2023 By Berseria there's rarely any need or point since you can't make allies do chains and even spellcasters are expected to. That said, Symphonia is of a vintage where you often want to command spells if there's a specific call for them, like spamming an elemental weakness or making sure the right heal is queued at the right time. In general, with all the games, the AI can be very stupid but you're not expected to command them constantly.

I can't get over that im leaving out stuff on the table if I set everyone to auto, or if I don't (including the MC) Surely the next game though.Ĭan Beseria or Symphonia be played nice with the keyboard/mouse? And how is it recommended to micro your other characters beyond the main character (primarily talking about Symphonia). Same except it's whoever fights with a doll that gets big and punches things while they ride it. Unless they don't exist (which is often.) I play whoever has a spear or other polearm.
