When not reading or promoting books, she is homeschooling her two daughters, dressing up in cosplay and historical dress, dreaming of her future farm, and caring for her ‘little zoo’ that includes two dogs, two guinea pigs, a bearded dragon, two daughters, and her husband. Her creative writing appears in many literary venues, including Wigleaf s Top 50 list, and was awarded the Buffalo Almanack Inkslingers Award for Creative Excellence.
Malissa’s passion for books has led her on one of the most favorite adventures of her life: traveling, fangirling, volunteering/working at book events, blogging, and supporting authors. Inkslinger is Biola University's student-run literary and creative arts journal, published annually during the spring semester. Her language research has been published in scientific journals such as Speech Communication and Computer Speech and Language. After a lifetime as a military dependent, she is now looking forward to her husband’s eventual retirement from the Service and one day settling into her forever home surrounded by books, Highland coos, and rescue dogs. Life as a military spouse has given her a passion for being of service to others. Malissa grew up as an Air Force ‘Brat’ and married into the Army. Her love of stories of all kinds was instilled in her at a young age through her beloved grandfather, Da’s example and encouragement.
